As I write this on the grounds of Krishna Island in Northern Ireland, being here has helped me realise something…
We are always connected, aren’t we?
Messages. Notifications. Conversations. Social media. There’s always something pulling our attention outward.
And after a while, it starts to feel normal.
But perhaps staying constantly connected to everything around us means we slowly lose connection with what’s within us.
It can show up as:
Less stillness.
Less clarity.
Less depth in the moments that actually matter.
And the thing is… we don’t always notice it happening. email-185793800836220417-179028…
When we step away, even for a brief time, something begins to change.
We disconnect from some of the noise — and something else begins to return:
A sense of presence.
A deeper awareness.
A feeling of being grounded again.
In spiritual life, this isn’t about escaping the world.
It’s about creating enough space to reconnect with what is deeper than it.
Sometimes we need to intentionally place ourselves in an environment that allows that to happen.
For me, places like Krishna Island have offered exactly that.
But perhaps we don’t always need to travel somewhere special.
It might simply mean putting the phone away.
Taking a walk without headphones.
Sitting quietly for a few minutes.
Chanting a mantra without doing anything else at the same time.
Not adding more.
Just stepping away long enough to reconnect properly:
With our purpose.
With others.
With ourselves.
And perhaps with something greater than ourselves.
When that connection returns, even slightly, everything else can begin to feel a little clearer. email-185793800836220417-179028…
So if you’ve been feeling scattered or pulled in different directions, perhaps there’s a simple question worth asking:
What might I need to disconnect from… so I can reconnect with what really matters?

Sometimes creating that space is easier when we do it together.
Every Friday, we come together at OMNOM Birmingham for kirtan, mantra, music and community. I also share kirtan at retreats, festivals and gatherings throughout the year.
Whether you’re completely new to kirtan or it’s already part of your life, you’re warmly welcome.
