I had the privilege of being part of the Soul Path Retreat, and I came away with a heart full of gratitude.
Firstly, I want to thank the wonderful team at OmLife, led by Tina and assisted by Diyana, for their kindness, trust and invitation to be part of such a meaningful few days.
Creating a space where people can pause, reflect and reconnect with what truly matters is no small thing, and it was an honour to contribute.
One of the greatest joys for me was sharing kirtan throughout the retreat.
There is something special about watching a room of people — many experiencing mantra meditation for the first time — gradually open through music.
You can almost feel the atmosphere change.
What begins with curiosity can slowly become joy.
Stillness.
Connection.
Kirtan has a beautiful way of reminding us that we don’t have to perform.
We don’t have to pretend.
We don’t have to arrive with everything figured out.
We simply come as we are.
Voice by voice.
Mantra by mantra.
Something begins to shift.
The mind becomes quieter.
The heart becomes lighter.
And for a moment, we remember that perhaps happiness isn’t always something we need to chase.
Sometimes it is something we need to reconnect with.
What touched me most was seeing people who arrived as strangers leave feeling like friends.
In a world that constantly encourages us to move from one thing to the next, there was something refreshing about simply slowing down.
Singing together.
Sharing conversations.
Listening.
Being present.
Retreats like these remind me that spiritual growth isn’t about escaping the world.
It is about learning how to return to everyday life with a little more clarity, compassion and purpose.
And as I reflected on those few days, another thought stayed with me.
Every person is walking their own path.
Some may be taking their first steps.
Others may have been travelling for many years.
Our experiences may be different.
Our questions may be different.
But beneath them, perhaps many of us are searching for something similar.
A deeper sense of peace.
Meaning.
Connection.
Something that reminds us that life can be more than simply getting through another week.
I’m grateful to have shared part of that journey with everyone who was there.
And perhaps that is something worth remembering beyond any retreat.
We may each walk our own path.
But that doesn’t mean we have to walk it alone.
One mantra. One moment. One step at a time.
With gratitude,
Jagannātha Dās
Come and Experience It
If these reflections resonate with you, why not come and experience kirtan for yourself?
Every Friday, we come together at OMNOM Birmingham for an evening of mantra, music, meditation and community. I also share kirtan at retreats, festivals and gatherings throughout the year.
Whether you’ve experienced kirtan many times or you’re completely new, you’re warmly welcome.
